Riyan Parag fulfils a family dream with India debut
Riyan Parag has set a remarkable achievement by becoming the first cricketer from Assam to be selected for the Indian national cricket team. He had to go through significant challenges to secure a spot in the national team. This opportunity came his way due to his consistent performance in domestic leagues.
Riyan's father wished for his son's name to be associated with his (the father's) name rather than a surname. The 22-year-old star received his debut cap from his father, Parag Das. Typically, the captain hands over the debut cap, but something different happened in Riyan’s case. His family could witness the fulfillment of his dream.
Parag made his debut on Saturday in the first T20 match against Zimbabwe. Unfortunately, he did not perform well in his first match. He was out after scoring 2 runs from 3 balls and did not bowl.
Riyan Parag debuted in the jersey number '12', the same number that Yuvraj Singh once wore. Riyan's batting position is at number 4, which is currently firmly held by India's top T20 batter Suryakumar Yadav. Hence, it is a significant challenge for Riyan Parag to maintain his position in the national team.
In a video message, Riyan Parag expressed his feelings by saying, "Traveling with the Indian jersey is a different feeling. Coming from Assam, I always dreamed of playing for the Indian national team. It feels really good."
This year, Riyan Parag scored 573 runs at a strike rate of 149.22 in the IPL. He has secured his position at number four for Rajasthan Royals.
