Rishabh Pant reveals reason for helping Bangladesh set field in first Test
In an unusual turn of events during the third day of the Chennai Test, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant found himself setting field placements for Bangladesh's captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto. This unexpected moment sparked laughter among fans, highlighting a unique camaraderie on the field.
While still batting himself, Pant instructed Shanto on where to place fielders. "Hey, put a fielder here," he was heard saying in Hindi. "There aren’t enough fielders at mid-wicket." Following Pant's advice, Shanto quickly brought in a fielder to the mid-wicket region at the start of Taskin's over.
Pant’s assistance to Shanto raised questions about why he was helping the opposing team. In response, he explained, "I often discuss with Ajay (Jadeja) how to improve in cricket, whether it's for my team or another. At that moment, there was no fielder in that position, and they had two fielders clustered together. So, I suggested that they need someone else in a different spot, and Shanto agreed."
In a lighthearted interview with Geo Cinema after the match, Pant chuckled when asked why he was setting fielding for Shanto's team.
Unfortunately for Bangladesh, they faced a significant defeat, bowled out for 234 while chasing a massive target of 515 runs, resulting in a 280-run victory for India.
