With fifties from Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Jaker Ali Anik, Bangladesh has avoided the threat of innings defeat and taken a lead. Before rain interrupted play, Bangladesh was ahead by 65 runs. A tea break was announced in the meantime. Play was halted at 1:38 PM and is set to resume at 3 PM.
At 2:45 PM Bangladesh time, the umpires will inspect the field to announce the start time of the match, confirming that play will begin at 3 PM. Ground staff at Mirpur are busy drying the outfield.
In the second innings, Bangladesh's score stood at 267 for 7 when rain stopped play. Mehedi Hasan Miraz is unbeaten on 77 and Naim Hasan is on 12. So far, Bangladesh leads by 65 runs.
Starting the day with 101 runs on the board and three wickets down, Bangladesh reached 112 runs, still 90 runs behind South Africa's first innings total. Naturally, the threat of innings defeat loomed large. In this situation, Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Zakir Ali Onik provided much-needed stability. However, Zakir was dismissed after scoring a personal total of 58, while Miraz continued to push towards his century.
