India defeated Bangladesh by 6 wickets in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai, and following the match, the team's fielding coach, T. Dilip, took a moment to praise the players for their efforts in the field. One of the standout performers in the field was wicketkeeper KL Rahul, who earned the title of the best fielder for his exceptional work behind the stumps.
Rahul's incredible performance behind the wickets during the match earned him this special award. The wicketkeeper made a significant impact by taking three crucial catches, including the dismissals of Soumya Sarkar, Tanjid Hasan Tamim, and Mushfiqur Rahim.
The tradition of recognizing the best fielder after every match began during the 2023 ODI World Cup and has continued into the 2025 Champions Trophy. Following the game, India's fielding coach, T. Dilip, announced the award winner in the dressing room, where the players were seen in high spirits, celebrating the win and sharing the joy of their success.
A video shared by the BCCI on their official website captures the celebratory moment, with the Indian players gathered together, enjoying the victory and congratulating each other. The moment of surprise came when veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja draped the winner’s medal around Rahul’s neck, adding to the festive atmosphere in the locker room.
In the match, Rahul made his mark right from the first over of Bangladesh's innings. Off Mohammad Shami's delivery, Rahul took a sharp catch to dismiss Soumya Sarkar. He followed that up with two more catches, first off Axar Patel’s deliveries, to dismiss Tanjid and Mushfiqur, all of which were crucial moments that helped India on their way to victory.
