The excitement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction is at its peak. On the second day of the auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan’s young leg-spinner Allah Mohammad Gazanfar was bought by Mumbai Indians for 4.80 crore rupees after a bidding war with Kolkata Knight Riders.
The base price for young Afghan player Allah Mohammad Gazanfar was set at 75 lakh Indian rupees. Initially, Kolkata Knight Riders made the first bid, followed by a challenge from Royal Challengers Bangalore. Mumbai Indians also entered the bidding war. In the end, Mumbai triumphed over Kolkata, securing the spinner for 4.80 crore rupees.
Allah Mohammad Gazanfar has so far taken 29 wickets in 16 T20 matches at an economy rate of 5.71. At Mumbai Indians, he will join an experienced squad that includes Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Trent Boult.
Despite Gazanfar’s success, his Afghan teammate Mujeeb Ur Rahman remained unsold. Additionally, no franchise showed interest in signing other international spinners like Keshav Maharaj, Akil Hossain, and Adil Rashid.
Allah Mohammad Gazanfar was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders setup last season, and after his exceptional performances in international cricket, particularly against South Africa and Bangladesh, he was a subject of much discussion in the auction.
