Innocent Kaia recalled to Zimbabwes ODI squad for Bangladesh series
Zimbabwe batter Innocent Kaia has earned a recall to the ODI squad after his outstanding 140-run innings against Bangladesh in the one-off Test. He has been included in the 15-member squad for the three-match ODI series, which begins on Monday.
Also returning to the squad are Ryan Burl, Tadiwanashe Marumani and Wellington Masakadza. Kaia last played an ODI in December 2023, while Burl’s most recent appearance came in January 2024. Marumani and Masakadza last featured in the format in February 2025.
Following Zimbabwe’s historic Test victory in Harare, Richard Ngarava has been appointed captain of the ODI side. It will be the first time in his career that the left-arm pacer leads the team in the 50-over format. Former captain Sean Williams has not been considered for selection as he is currently undergoing rehabilitation for drug addiction. Kaia had also scored a century for Zimbabwe A during their recent one-day tour of Bangladesh.
Ryan Burl also featured for Zimbabwe A in Bangladesh, scoring 50 and 20 in the two one-day matches while taking one wicket. Earlier in March, he struck back-to-back centuries for the Rhinos—one in a four-day match and the other in 50-over cricket.
Zimbabwe’s pace attack will be led by Ngarava alongside Blessing Muzarabani, Brad Evans, Newman Nyamhuri and Ernest Masuku. The spin department includes all-rounders Ryan Burl and Wessly Madhevere, as well as left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza.
Brendan Taylor, Sean Williams, Johnathan Campbell, Tony Munyonga and Trevor Gwandu have all been left out of the squad that last played an ODI series against Sri Lanka in August.
All three ODIs between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe will be played at Harare Sports Club on July 6, 9 and 11.
