India Defeats Australia by 295 Runs in the First Test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy

In the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India has defeated Australia by 295 runs on their home ground. This victory marks India's record for the largest margin of victory against Australia on Australian soil. With this win, the visitors have taken a 1-0 lead in the five-match Test series.

Chasing a target of 534 runs, Australia ended the third day's play with just 12 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. At that point, defeat seemed almost certain for the hosts. India's victory was just a matter of time. After being bowled out for only 150 runs in their first innings, India made a remarkable comeback in the second innings to seal the victory.

On the fourth day, Australia lost wickets early. Travis Head was the highest run-scorer for the hosts, playing an innings of 89 runs off 101 balls. In the middle, he formed partnerships of 62 and 82 runs with Steve Smith and Mitchell Marsh, respectively, which only helped reduce the margin of defeat.

Once Head was dismissed, Alex Carey continued to bat on. However, the heavy target and the dominance of the Indian bowlers meant that Australia couldn't sustain their innings for much longer. When Carey was bowled out by Harshit Rana, Australia's innings came to an end. Carey scored 36 runs, while Mitchell Marsh made 47. Australia was all out for 238 in their second innings.

India had been bowled out for just 150 runs in their first innings. In response, Australia could only manage 104 runs in their first innings, thanks to Jasprit Bumrah's devastating bowling. However, India made a strong comeback in their second innings. With 161 runs from Yashasvi Jaiswal and 100 runs from Virat Kohli, India posted a total of 487 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah was named the Player of the Match for his impressive performance, taking a total of 8 wickets across both innings.
