India Beat West Indies as Kohli and Gill Hit Centuries

India defeated the West Indies by a convincing eight-wicket margin in the first ODI of the three-match series. Chasing a target of 296, the hosts sealed victory in just 41.4 overs, riding on magnificent centuries from captain Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli. With this win, India took a 1-0 lead in the series.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, the West Indies got off to a strong start through openers Justin Greaves and John Campbell. The pair put together a solid 135-run partnership for the first wicket. Greaves struck a brilliant century, scoring 101 off 108 balls, while Campbell contributed a useful 62.

Although Kuldeep Yadav’s spin magic in the middle overs triggered a mini-collapse in the Caribbean innings, Amir Jangoo’s unbeaten 58 off 43 balls towards the end helped the visitors post a competitive total of 295 for seven in their allotted 50 overs.

For India, Kuldeep Yadav was the standout bowler, taking four wickets for just 40 runs in his 10 overs.

Chasing 296, India’s batters played aggressively from the outset. Although Rohit Sharma departed for 32 in the opening partnership, Shubman Gill continued to bat fluently at the other end. He scored a stylish 110 off 108 balls, hitting 13 fours and one six.

After Gill’s dismissal, Virat Kohli took complete control of the match. He produced a blistering unbeaten 139 off just 88 balls, smashing 10 fours and nine massive sixes to guide India across the finish line. Ruturaj Gaikwad remained unbeaten on 13. Kohli was named Player of the Match for his destructive unbeaten knock of 139 off 88 balls.
