'I want to win the T20 World Cup': Soumya dreaming big

The difference between Soumya Sarkar of 2015 and the present is stark and unsettling. However, the star all-rounder of the Tigers is approaching the 2024 T20 World Cup with the same enthusiasm as during his debut. Despite not having runs with the bat, Soumya holds high hopes. Perhaps expecting to achieve something extraordinary, Soumya, with a smile, said, "I always dream big, I dream of becoming a champion." He wants to make the World Cup memorable by winning the title.

Soumya Sarkar's rise to prominence was like a fairy tale. He has repeatedly proven that he can be something special for Bangladesh. His ability to influence the game with both bat and ball is well known. For this World Cup in the West Indies and the USA, Soumya has the same old passion and desire to fulfill his dreams.

"As a player, playing in any World Cup is a matter of pride. I played my first World Cup in 2015, and this time too, the excitement will be the same. I will try to make 2024 memorable for myself and also contribute something good to the team."

Soumya boldly declared that he dreams of more than just reaching the semifinals; he aims for the final. "I always dream big, I dream of becoming a champion. Personally, I like to dream big. If someone says semifinals, I will say we will go to the finals. Then comes the result. The outcome will depend on how we perform on the field. There will be ups and downs, wins and losses in the game. We will try to give our best from our side."

Last year in Nelson, Soumya scored 169 runs in Bangladesh's total of 291. As a favorite student of coach Chandika Hathurusingha, this left-handed batsman repeatedly gets opportunities. He has no prior experience with the challenging conditions in the USA. In this period of off-form, Soumya wants to solve the problem himself.

"It is important for a batsman to score runs. Wherever he scores, it is important to be in form. If you don't score runs, you don't get confidence; if you do, it supports you mentally. We have no experience playing in America, nor do we know the conditions of the grounds. So, the faster we can adapt, the better it will be for us."
