The two semifinalists from Group A of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy—India and New Zealand—have already been confirmed, with Bangladesh and Pakistan both eliminated after losing their first two matches. Following this, a storm of criticism has arisen, including comments from Bangladesh’s former analyst Mohsin Sheikh. According to Sheikh, both Bangladesh and Pakistan are quickly heading down the path to becoming the next Zimbabwe in international cricket.

Neither team has been able to pose any serious competition on the world stage. Sheikh pointed out that both Bangladesh and Pakistan share several similarities in terms of their failure to progress. While Pakistan won the Champions Trophy in 2017, Bangladesh reached the semifinals in the same year. However, neither team has achieved significant success in recent years.

Sheikh’s Facebook Post Critiques the Teams’ Management

After Bangladesh’s defeat to New Zealand, Mohsin Sheikh took to Facebook to express his views, saying, "The similarities between the Bangladesh and Pakistan cricket teams are glaring: weak team selections, poor management, lack of talent, no accountability, and the key decision-makers are also incompetent and not held accountable. Domestic cricket has collapsed and is not being fixed. The priority list is all wrong." He further stated, "Due to all these factors, both teams are rapidly heading toward becoming like Zimbabwe."

Sheikh’s Previous Tenure with Bangladesh and Other Teams

Mohsin Sheikh previously worked as Bangladesh’s analyst before their West Indies tour, after which his contract was not renewed. He has also worked with Afghanistan, Australia, and Pakistan’s national teams. In addition, Sheikh was part of the recently concluded Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), where he worked with the Khulna Tigers.
