Shanto's comment on Tamim Iqbal's come back
Bangladesh national cricket team captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has expressed his vision for the team he wishes to have for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. According to the captain, there is currently no consideration for bringing back Tamim Iqbal or Mushfiqur Rahim from their T20 retirements. However, Shanto would be pleased to have a fit Tamim in any format.
Following a domestic match at the Mirpur Home of Cricket, lengthy discussions were observed between captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Tamim Iqbal in the dressing room. The nature of their discussions was not clear at that time, leading to speculation about whether Tamim might hint at a return to the team before the World Cup.
Today, Najmul Hossain Shanto shed some light on their conversation: "We had a nice sit-down and chit-chat. We discussed cricket, Tamim's current condition, and the way I, as a captain, am thinking. It is difficult to say anything definitive at this moment because it is a matter of time. He has also asked for some time to think. Let the DPL (Dhaka Premier League) conclude. I also need some time to think. Essentially, our conversation was generally about cricket... the current situation, and what's happening."
Tamim Iqbal, who has retired from T20 cricket and is reluctant to play Test matches due to fitness concerns, will likely have a prolonged absence from international cricket since Bangladesh will not play any ODI series until December this year, as per the ICC's Future Tours Programme (FTP).
