Delhi Capitals Appoint Munaf Patel as Bowling Coach
Former India fast bowler and 2007 ODI World Cup winner, Munaf Patel, has been appointed as the new bowling coach of Delhi Capitals. The IPL franchise confirmed this by posting a welcome message for Munaf on social media on Tuesday.
Before Munaf Patel, former Australian all-rounder James Hope served as the bowling coach for Delhi. Additionally, due to the lack of success, Delhi has severed its long-standing relationship with head coach Ricky Ponting, and Sourav Ganguly will no longer serve as the team’s director of cricket operations.
The new coaching panel of Delhi Capitals has Indian former batsman Hemang Badani as the head coach. Replacing Sourav Ganguly, former Indian batsman Venugopal Rao has joined the team. Now, Munaf Patel has been added to the staff as well.
This will be Munaf Patel’s first high-profile coaching role since retiring from competitive cricket in 2018. Munaf has played in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals (2008-10), Mumbai Indians (2011-13), and Gujarat Lions (2017). He was part of the Mumbai Indians squad that won the IPL title in 2013.
For the upcoming season, Delhi Capitals have retained key players including spin-bowling all-rounder Axar Patel, wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav, South African batter Tristan Stubbs, and uncapped wicketkeeper-batter Abhishek Porel. The IPL mega auction will take place on November 24-25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
