Taijul Islam Strikes Early on Day 2 as Bangladesh Prepare to Bat
Zimbabwe ended the first day of the Chattogram Test at 227 for 9, with Bangladesh dominating the final session through a superb bowling display led by Taijul Islam. Although Bangladesh couldn't wrap up Zimbabwe’s innings late on Day 1, Taijul needed just one ball on the morning of Day 2 to dismiss Blessing Muzarabani, sealing Zimbabwe's innings at 227.
With that wicket, Taijul completed his sixth of the innings, extending his outstanding figures and showcasing once again why he is such a crucial figure in Bangladesh’s Test attack. It also marked the 16th time in his career that Taijul claimed a five-wicket haul in an innings.
Earlier on Day 1, Zimbabwe had been cruising at 177 for 2 before a dramatic collapse saw them slump to 217 for 9. The visitors lost seven wickets for just 40 runs, falling victim to the relentless pressure exerted by Bangladesh’s bowlers, particularly the spinners.
Despite the late collapse, Zimbabwe managed to survive the final overs of Day 1 without losing their last wicket, as Tafadzwa Tsiga and Blessing Muzarabani battled through the closing minutes. However, they couldn't extend their resistance into the second day.
Bangladesh are now set to begin their first innings in favorable conditions, hoping to build a strong response against the visitors.
