Bangladesh Suffer Innings and 85 Run Defeat to Zimbabwe

Bangladesh endured a disastrous start to their Zimbabwe tour, suffering a crushing innings and 85-run defeat in the one-off Test at Harare Sports Club. Najmul Hossain Shanto’s side collapsed with the bat in both innings as the hosts, led by Richard Ngarava’s outstanding bowling attack, wrapped up a comprehensive victory inside just three days.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Bangladesh endured a dramatic batting collapse in their first innings. Mominul Haque’s 60 and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto’s 19 were the only notable contributions, as the rest of the batting lineup failed to withstand Zimbabwe’s pace attack. Newman Nyamhuri claimed four wickets, while Blessing Muzarabani produced an impressive spell to bowl Bangladesh out for just 140.

In reply, Zimbabwe piled up a commanding 410 in their first innings. Opener Innocent Kaia starred with a superb 140, while Craig Ervine (60), Brian Bennett (59), Wesley Madhevere (55), and Ben Curran (42) all made valuable contributions to establish a massive first-innings lead. For Bangladesh, left-arm spinner Taijul Islam claimed an outstanding seven wickets for 138 runs, but his efforts were not enough to prevent Zimbabwe from posting a formidable total.

Trailing by 270 runs, Bangladesh failed to recover in their second innings. Once again, Zimbabwe’s bowlers exposed the visitors’ fragile batting lineup, dismissing them for just 185. The tourists were therefore beaten by an innings and 85 runs, capping off a disappointing performance in the one-off Test.
