Bailey explained why Jake Fraser-McGurk is not in WC squad

Jake Fraser-McGurk has batted in just 6 innings in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). The 22-year-old Aussie batter has proven his worth, playing for Delhi Capitals with a strike rate of 233.33, scoring 259 runs.

Even though he hasn't secured a century, this right-handed batter has managed to hit 23 fours and an equal number of sixes, with a highest score of 84.

Many had speculated that Fraser-McGurk might find a spot in Australia's World Cup squad after his impressive 259 runs off 111 balls. However, he hasn't secured a place in the Australian team for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in West Indies and the United States of America.

Selector George Bailey explained the absence of Fraser-McGurk from the squad, stating that they didn't include him primarily due to the settled top order and squad flexibility. With players like David Warner, Travis Head, and Mitchell Marsh occupying the top three positions, there wasn't room for Fraser-McGurk.

Bailey, the chief selector, commented, 'His (Fraser-McGurk) recent form has been excellent. However, the players in our top order are in terrific form.' He added, 'I'm not sure how ready he is to play in another position, but it's certain that he's more suited to the top order. We believe we have players who offer flexibility in their batting positions.'

Cameron Green and Josh Inglis have been prioritized over Jake Fraser-McGurk. Both are experienced in the middle order. Additionally, Green's bowling and Inglis's wicket-keeping skills have favored them.

Bailey mentioned to Australian media on Wednesday that Jake Fraser-McGurk could be named as a traveling reserve. However, Matt Short, Tanveer Sangha, and Spencer Johnson are also being considered for that role.
