After a year's wait, Shakib Al Hasan is gearing up for Test cricket once again. He will return to international cricket with the second Test match against Sri Lanka. Last year in August, he played his last Test match against Ireland. Shakib aims to contribute to the team's victory in Test cricket. Returning to the Test squad has brought joy and pride to Shakib. Ahead of the match day, Shakib was seen in a different light during practice. He didn't pick up the bat or ball even for a moment. However, Shakib has done a lot beyond that.
The training for the Bangladesh team started at 10:45 am at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong. Shakib, along with captain Najmul Shanto, was seen taking a stroll to see the pitch. He was accompanied by Nick Pothas, the head coach. Later, Shakib joined the rest of the team for a game of football to pass the time.
As a part of the team, Shakib took to the nets with openers Zakir Hasan and Mahmudul Hasan Joy leading the way. While Shanto and Liton Das practiced batting, there was something exceptional about Shakib. After a long hiatus, Shakib is eager to make his return to Test cricket. He has prepared himself meticulously. Shakib's return to international cricket after almost five months is primarily through the three matches in the Dhaka Premier League. Although he failed to shine in the first two matches for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, he scored 53 runs in the third match while also taking two wickets.
Shakib last played as captain in Test cricket. Now, under the leadership of new captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, he will play his first match. Shakib's presence may make the captain's job easier. Bangladesh is trailing 1-0 in the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. In this edition, Shakib has emphasized the real strength and capabilities of Bangladesh. With the pride of playing for the country, he is not aiming for any personal milestones in this Test match.
Yesterday afternoon, Shakib joined the team for practice in Chittagong. They are gearing up for the final Test of the series against Sri Lanka.
