I Want My Respect Back, Challenges Authorities to Show Proof Enamul Haque Bijoy

Enamul Haque Bijoy was unable to play in the most recent BPL amid allegations of suspected match-fixing. The issue sparked widespread discussion and criticism at the time. In light of the allegations, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided not to include him in the tournament. Since then, the opener has not featured in any domestic competition. Although his name was included in the squad for the ongoing Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL), he did not play a single match due to being out of the country.

After returning from performing Umrah, Bijoy faced the media and spoke emotionally about the questions surrounding him and his current situation. He said,

“Alhamdulillah, with your prayers and by the mercy of Allah, I was able to go for Umrah. During tawaf, 10 people spoke to me — this honor has been given to me by Allah. They also asked me, ‘Brother, what really happened?’ It hurts because they want a solution too. But why don’t those of you in charge understand that I need a solution?”

Clarifying his cricketing philosophy and personal stance, Bijoy emphasized that he has never played cricket for money. For him, respect is the most important thing. He said,

“You have given me a lot of love, I have received so much, Alhamdulillah. Now I need my respect. I have been playing cricket since childhood for respect, not for money. I want that respect back.”

Describing the situation surrounding him over the past year as “disrespectful,” Bijoy said it is difficult for anyone to remain normal under such circumstances. Expressing his frustration, he stated,

“The disrespect you have given me over the past year is enough for any human being. After this, even if I return to play, it feels like there will be no position left to earn respect again. I don’t know if I work at NASA. If I worked at NASA, I could say I am a very intelligent person. I have done something that no one can understand, completely silently.”

Finally, directly challenging the allegations, Bijoy said no accusations should be made against him without evidence. Confident about his innocence, the batter said,

“If it were something obvious, it would have been clear publicly whether I did it or not. And I wouldn’t be able to say with such confidence that I did nothing. I am saying I did nothing — if I did, show the proof. I will quit cricket.”
