Middle East Conflict Delays Zimbabwe Teams Return Home
After participating in the ICC T20 World Cup in India, the Zimbabwe cricket team has been stranded on their way home due to escalating tensions in the Middle East. Their flights have been canceled or delayed as a result of the situation.
The team had planned to return via Delhi to Dubai and then from Dubai to Harare. However, attacks at various locations, including a U.S. military base, have disrupted international air routes.
Zimbabwe coach Justin Samons said, “No, no. I haven’t heard anything. When we started the match, nothing had happened. After that, we focused solely on the game. Since then, I haven’t heard anything.”
On the field, the team’s performance has been positive. In the match against South Africa in Delhi, captain Sikandar Raja scored 73 runs off 43 balls and took 3 wickets. South Africa chased the target of 154 runs comfortably, winning with 13 balls to spare.
Due to the tensions in the Middle East, it is not only Zimbabwe; the 25-member England Lions squad has also been stranded. The situation highlights the impact of international security conditions on World Cup logistics.
