Renshaw and Ellis Shine as Australia Beat Zimbabwe to Kick Off Series in Style

Powered by Matt Renshaw’s brilliant century and a superb five-wicket haul from paceman Nathan Ellis, Australia defeated Zimbabwe by 59 runs in the first ODI of the three-match series. With this victory at the Harare Sports Club, the Aussies have taken a 1-0 lead in the series.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Australia suffered an early setback with Travis Head (4) returning to the pavilion cheaply. However, skipper Mitchell Marsh (36) and youngster Cooper Connolly (51) steadied the ship. The cornerstone of Australia's formidable total was Matt Renshaw, batting at number three, who played a stellar knock of 109 off 94 balls, laced with 7 fours and 3 sixes. Supported by Oliver Peake’s handy contribution (30) towards the end, the visitors set a challenging target of 294/8 in their allotted 50 overs.

For Zimbabwe, young pacer Newman Nyamhuri was the standout bowler, claiming 5 wickets for 62 runs.

Chasing a target of 295, the hosts crumbled under the relentless pressure applied by Nathan Ellis. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, veterans Craig Ervine (59) and Sikandar Raza (57) struck half-centuries to keep Zimbabwe in the hunt. However, with little support from the middle and lower order, the host side was bundled out for 235 in 45.1 overs.

Nathan Ellis wrecked the Zimbabwean batting lineup, finishing with outstanding figures of 5 for 31. Matt Renshaw was named Player of the Match for his all-round display, combining a stunning hundred with a wicket.
