A Flood of Records in Mirpur: Bangladesh Makes History with Bat Against Ireland
In the ongoing Test against Ireland at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, Bangladesh’s batsmen have unleashed a flood of records in the first innings. By forming century partnerships for the fourth, fifth, and sixth consecutive wickets, the Tigers have achieved a unique feat in a single innings. This is the first time such an event has occurred in Bangladesh’s Test history.
Such a scene is also rare in the 147-year history of Test cricket worldwide. This is only the third time that three consecutive century partnerships have been formed for these wickets in a single innings. Previously, this occurred in the 1979 India–West Indies Test and the 2023 Pakistan–Sri Lanka Test.
In terms of century partnerships, this marks another special milestone for Bangladesh. The Tigers have now witnessed three century partnerships in a single innings in their Test history. The previous two occasions were in 2013—once against Sri Lanka and once against New Zealand.
On this day, Mushfiqur Rahim, Liton Das, and Mehedi Hasan Miraz achieved new personal and partnership successes with the bat. The Liton–Miraz partnership added 123 runs, marking their third century partnership in Test cricket. At the same time, Liton Das reached the 3,000-run milestone in Tests, becoming the sixth Bangladeshi batsman to achieve this feat.
Mushfiqur Rahim shines on the personal achievement list. The experienced batsman scored his 13th Test century, bringing him to a joint top position in Bangladesh’s list of most Test centuries—tied with Mominul Haque, who also has 13 centuries.
The 108-run partnership between Mushfiq and Liton is Bangladesh’s seventh century partnership in Test history and sets a new milestone as the country’s highest number of century partnerships.
Such a commanding batting performance in the first innings has given the team a strong foundation while breaking record after record, adding a new chapter of pride to Bangladesh’s Test history.
