Rain delayed the start of Day Three in the Sylhet Test, washing out the entire first session. When play finally resumed, Bangladesh lost three quick wickets — Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Mominul Haque, and Mushfiqur Rahim — heading into the tea break under pressure. However, the final session brought calm, as skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and debutant wicketkeeper-batter Jaker Ali Anik steadied the innings.
Bad light brought an early end to the day's play, with Bangladesh reaching 194 for 4 in 57 overs — a lead of 112 runs in their second innings.
Captain Shanto was the standout performer of the day, remaining unbeaten on 60 off 103 deliveries. He brought up his fifth Test fifty with a composed knock that included 7 boundaries off 84 balls. At the other end, Jaker Ali played a supporting role, ending the day on 21* off 60 balls. Together, they have added an unbroken 39-run stand, offering Bangladesh hope of setting a significant target for Zimbabwe.
After being bowled out for 191 in the first innings and conceding a lead of 82 runs to Zimbabwe, Bangladesh have made a strong comeback. With six wickets still in hand, they will look to extend their lead significantly on Day Four and put the visitors under pressure.
Bangladesh are expected to come out tomorrow with the intent to bat deep into the day and set a challenging fourth-innings target on a pitch that is gradually becoming more difficult for batting.
