Arshdeep Singh penalised for breaching ICC Code of Conduct
India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has been fined 15 percent of his match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct. The incident took place during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final against New Zealand in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
According to the ICC, Arshdeep breached Article 2.9 of the Code of Conduct, which relates to throwing a ball or any piece of cricket equipment at or near a player in an inappropriate or dangerous manner during an international match.
The incident occurred in the 11th over of New Zealand’s innings when Arshdeep fielded the ball in his follow-through and threw it aggressively, which struck batter Daryl Mitchell on the pads. As a result, one demerit point has also been added to his disciplinary record. It was his first offence in a 24-month period.
Arshdeep accepted the sanction proposed by Emirates ICC Elite Panel match referee Andy Pycroft, meaning there was no need for a formal hearing.
On-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Alex Wharf, third umpire Allahuddien Paleker and fourth umpire Adrian Holdstock levelled the charge.
According to ICC regulations, Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50 percent of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
