ICC expresses sadness at the passing of Afghanistan umpire Bismillah Jan Shinwari

Afghanistan’s respected international cricket umpire, Bismillah Jan Shinwari, has passed away at the age of 41. The International Cricket Council (ICC) expressed its deep condolences over his untimely death.

Shinwari was an important member of the ICC’s International Panel of Umpires. Over his career, he officiated in 25 men’s One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 21 men’s T20 Internationals. His most recent international assignment came in February this year, during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 matches in Oman.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah paid tribute in a condolence message, saying:

"Bismillah was an influential umpire who was respected by players, colleagues, and officials alike. He had a regular presence on the international circuit and had many more years ahead of him."

He added:

"His contribution to cricket was outstanding. His untimely passing is an irreparable loss to the cricketing world. We extend our deepest condolences to his family."

As a prominent representative of Afghanistan on the international stage, Shinwari leaves behind an enduring legacy in his country’s cricket history. His professionalism, integrity, and dedication will long be remembered by the global cricket community.
