Travis Head Says Sam Konstas Will Open in the WTC Final
Australian opener Travis Head has stated that Sam Konstas will likely open for Australia in the World Test Championship Final against South Africa in June, despite having lost his place in the playing XI for the ongoing Sri Lanka Test series. Head, who replaced Constable at the top of the order, acknowledged that his own place in the team might move to the middle order for the final.
Speaking about the team dynamics and the competition for places, Head said, "In the World Test Championship Final, I will likely move back to the middle order, and Sam Konstas will open. But I'm happy I'm not the selector. Josh Inglis has started really well, the boys are playing well, and Cameron Green will be fit. So, it will be hard to fit everyone into the XI. I think that's what we want, though — an Australian team where spots are tough to come by."
Head also emphasized the competitive nature of the squad, saying, "What we know is that the players outside the team and those inside are all expecting strong performances. And that’s where the pressure comes from — trying to hold onto your spot in every Test match, knowing that someone is waiting for their chance. We’re in a strong position, and it’s better to discuss seven or eight batsmen than just three or four."
Sam Konstas had been in the spotlight following his strong performance with the bat during Australia's Test series against India. The World Test Championship Final will take place in Lord's, England, in June, with Australia facing South Africa.
