Abahani Limited becomes Champions again

Once again, Abahani Limited clinched the trophy. In today's match of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) held on Tuesday, if Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club had lost, Abahani would have been the champions, as calculated. They achieved victory by taking 4 wickets and chasing down the target confidently. Through this triumph in the final, Abahani has secured the title for the 23rd time.

Sheikh Jamal set a target of 268 runs. To chase it down, both openers Sabbir Hossain scored 6 runs and Naeem Sheikh scored 21 runs. Then, Anamul Haque Bijoy and Afif Hossain formed an excellent partnership. Their partnership of 103 runs gave hope to Abahani. When Anamul departed for 67 runs off 79 balls, captain Mosaddek Hossain joined Afif.

Afif's innings ended at 83 runs off 88 balls, leaving the team at 213 runs with 4 wickets down. Captain Mosaddek took over the responsibility. Nahidul Islam also supported Mosaddek well, scoring 24 runs off 19 balls. Six balls were needed to win the match till the end. When 1 run was needed off the last two balls, Mosaddek hit a six, resulting in both the team's victory and completing the captain's fifty.

Prior to this, runs came from Saikat Ali, Shakib Al Hasan, and Kazi Nurul Hasan Sohan. However, the biggest contribution came from Ziaur Rahman. Despite losing the toss and being assigned to bat, Shakib played after a long time for the team. Saikat, Shakib, and Sohan couldn't complete their fifties. Saikat returned with 41, Shakib with 49, and Sohan with 41 runs.

However, Sheikh Jamal faced the wrath of Ziaur Rahman's innings. This batsman scored 85 runs off 58 balls with 8 sixes and 5 fours. He concluded his innings in the final over. Sheikh Jamal halted at 267 runs, losing 9 wickets.

Playing for Abahani, Tanjim Hasan Sakib and Rakibul Hasan took 3 wickets each.
