In the IPL, Kolkata Knight Riders secured their second victory, while Royal Challengers Bangalore tasted defeat again after their win. Today, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders lost by 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs, collecting 182 runs. In response, Kolkata took the desired victory by losing 3 wickets with 19 balls remaining.
Needing to bat to chase 183 runs, Kolkata began their innings with a solid foundation, which lasted until the end of the match. Phil Salt and Sunil Narine combined for 86 runs. Narine didn't contribute much, returning to the pavilion for 47 runs off 22 balls, dismissed by Mayank Dagar.
Salt couldn't capitalize further. He scored 30 runs off 20 balls before being dismissed. Venkatesh Iyer, batting at number three, played a comfortable innings for Kolkata. Along with captain Shreyas Iyer, the team achieved the target within 9 overs.
The partnership between the two Iyers took Kolkata to victory. They contributed 75 runs together, ensuring Kolkata's complete dominance in the match. Venkatesh was caught off Yash Dayal's delivery after scoring 50 runs off 30 balls. However, Shreyas remained unbeaten until the end.
Earlier, Bangalore had a good start to their batting on their home ground. Although they lost Faf du Plessis for 17 runs, Virat Kohli maintained control over the match from one end.
Cameron Green could have built a longer partnership. However, he was directly bowled by Andre Russell's delivery after scoring 33 runs. Kohli also received support from Glenn Maxwell. However, Maxwell's innings ended with 28 runs.
Kohli remained steadfast in his place. Rajat Patidar and Anuj Rawat were disappointed today. However, Dinesh Karthik has taken over the responsibility of 'finishing' at his spot. He scored 20 runs off 8 balls, ending the innings with the last ball.
Kohli remained unbeaten with 83 runs off 59 balls, contributing with 4 sixes and 4 fours in his innings.
