England beat Bangladesh by 21 runs
In their second match of the World Cup, Bangladesh faced a setback after a promising start, losing to England by 21 runs. The Bangladeshi women's team struggled to defend their score, marking the lowest runs ever defended in their World Cup history. Despite a commendable bowling performance, the team faltered due to batting failures. Subahana Mostari's slow innings of 44 runs ultimately went in vain as England began their 2024 World Cup campaign with a victory.
Having secured a thrilling win against Scotland in their opening match, Bangladesh was up against a formidable England side. The Bangladeshi bowlers managed to take control of the match, restricting England to a modest total of 118 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
Chasing a relatively easy target, the Bangladeshi women's team stumbled right from the start. The opening partnership was slow, and they lost two wickets within the first six overs, managing only 20 runs. Consequently, the team needed to score 99 runs in the remaining 14 overs to clinch the match.
Subahana Mostari, batting at number three, top-scored with 44 runs, but it was not enough for victory. She approached her innings cautiously, lacking the aggressive intent typically associated with T20 matches. Only two Bangladeshi batters managed to reach double figures; besides Subahana's 44, captain Nigar Sultana Jyoti contributed a mere 15 runs.
Ultimately, Bangladesh's innings concluded at 97 runs for the loss of 7 wickets, handing a 21-run victory to the England women's team. Danny Wyatt-Hodge, who scored 41 runs, was awarded the Player of the Match.
