A morning of dominance for Bangladesh in Chennai as they started the first day of the Test match. Winning the toss, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto opted to bowl first, and Hasan Mahmud set the tone with a fiery performance. In the very first hour, Hasan took the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli, putting India in deep trouble early on.

It was a stellar session for Bangladesh, building on their recent series win against Pakistan. Hasan Mahmud’s impressive bowling ensured that India faced a challenging start, with the home team managing only 88 runs by the time they reached the tea break. The partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant provided some relief for the Indian dugout as they remained unbeaten at the end of the session.

The bowling began with the combination of Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud. Hasan quickly found his line and length, striking in the sixth over by dismissing Rohit. He followed that up by taking the crucial wickets of Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli in successive overs.

Rohit, who scored only 6 runs, was caught by Shanto at second slip. Gill, batting at number three, was dismissed for a duck after facing 8 balls, failing to get off the mark. Kohli, too, could not handle Hasan’s pace, offering a catch to Liton Das, and made his way back to the pavilion for just 6 runs, leaving India in a precarious position at 34 for 3.

Rishabh Pant, making his return to Test cricket after 629 days, steadied the innings alongside the surviving opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, as they tried to rescue India from the early collapse.
