The schedule for the second phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been released. It mentions the venue for the IPL final. The 2024 IPL final is set to be held at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, commonly known as Chepauk. The date for the match has been fixed for May 26. Chennai has previously hosted the IPL finals in 2011 and 2012. Almost 12 years later, Chepauk is set to witness the same event again.
Apart from the final, Chennai will also host the second qualifier match, scheduled for May 24. Additionally, the first qualifier and eliminator matches will be held in Ahmedabad on May 21 and 22 respectively. A total of 52 matches have been scheduled for the second phase of the IPL.
The IPL schedule for the two phases was announced due to the Indian general elections. Earlier, the schedule was released for the first two weeks, which constituted the first phase. The matches of this second phase of the IPL will kick off from April 8. Each playoff match will be held at night.
In the first match, Kolkata Knight Riders will clash against the home team Chennai Super Kings at their home ground. Similar to 2023, this year's IPL teams have been divided into two groups. Group A consists of Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai Indians, and Rajasthan Royals. On the other hand, Group B comprises Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The schedule for the first leg of the IPL was announced on February 22. At that time, the timings of the matches were fixed from March 22 to April 7. The IPL committee awaited the announcement of the dates for the Indian general elections. Now that the dates have been announced, the entire schedule has been released by the tournament authorities.
