Having already been eliminated from the World Cup group stage, a "devastated" New Zealand found solace with a resounding 9-wicket victory over Uganda. Uganda, helpless against the fiery pace of Southee and Boult, couldn't muster more than 40 runs. The Kiwis chased down the target in just 5.2 overs.
At Trinidad's Brian Lara Stadium, New Zealand faced Uganda, already knocked out of the group stage. The despondent team made the most of their encounter with Uganda, bowling them out for a mere 40 runs. New Zealand finally tasted victory, requiring only 32 balls to chase down the target. Tim Southee and Trent Boult spearheaded the demolition.
Adding to the day's significance, Trent Boult has confirmed that this is his last T20 World Cup. "From my side, this will be my last T20 World Cup," Boult told the media after taking 2 wickets for just 7 runs against Uganda. Boult has been outstanding throughout his T20 World Cup career, accumulating a total of 32 wickets in 17 matches at an economy rate of 6.07, making him the second-highest wicket-taker among the tournament's top ten all-time.
Boult will play his final T20 World Cup match for New Zealand on June 17. "From my side, this will be my last T20 World Cup," Boult confirmed today in a press conference.
New Zealand, already eliminated from the World Cup group stage, took on Uganda in a match that saw them claim a dominant 9-wicket victory. Uganda's batsmen were left helpless against the fierce pace attack led by Southee and Boult, managing to score only 40 runs. The Kiwis needed just 5.2 overs to chase down the target.
In the Uganda match, Boult was exceptional with the ball. In his 4-over spell, he bowled one maiden and conceded only 7 runs while taking 2 wickets. His performance, alongside Southee’s, pushed Uganda to the second-lowest score in T20 World Cup history.
Already eliminated, New Zealand will conclude their World Cup campaign with a match against Namibia, marking the end of their group stage fixtures and Boult's farewell to T20 World Cup cricket.
