Sensational Khaled made Bangladesh morning bright
After 2007, Bangladesh played a match in whites without Shakib, Tamim, Mushfiqur, and Mahmudullah on home soil for the first time. Najmul Hossain Shanto was assigned the role of captain as a new assignment. However, it was Khaled Ahmed's pace that dominated Bangladesh's fate. Khaled's superb bowling performance during the morning session put Sri Lankan batsmen in a difficult position.
Khaled single-handedly took the first three wickets of Sri Lanka, although Shariful and Nahid also showed their prowess in the pace department. Despite Khaled's outstanding performance, it was Shariful who joined the wicket party towards the end of the session.
Thanks to Khaled's excellent bowling, Bangladesh had a fantastic first session of the Sylhet Test. Claiming five wickets while conceding only 92 runs in 22 overs, Bangladesh had a firm grip on the match. With a comfortable lead at the lunch break, Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto returned to the dressing room.
In Sylhet, Bangladesh won success as early as the second over of Sri Lanka's innings. Khaled Ahmed took a magnificent catch at third slip to dismiss Nishad Madushka. Then, Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis formed a partnership. However, Bangladesh found success again through Khaled's hands. He easily caught Kusal Mendis at the extra bouncer, leaving him with only 16 runs. Finally, in the second over, Khaled broke the stumps of Dimuth Karunaratne, sending him back to the pavilion. Losing both set batsmen in the 12th over of the innings, Sri Lanka was in trouble. Then, in an excellent fielding display, Angelo Mathews fell victim to a throw from Shanto. Playing 47 balls, Mathews could only score 5 runs. Losing four wickets for 47 runs, Sri Lanka lost their fifth wicket at 57 runs. After Khaled Ahmed's three wickets, a new face finally found success on the wicket. Miraz caught Dinesh Chandimal in leg slip off Shariful Islam's ball.
