ICC stands firm on New York despite India pitch fears
The pitch at Nassau County Stadium in New York has become a battlefield for the batters. The ball sometimes bounces excessively after hitting the pitch, posing a risk to the batsmen's chest or ankles. Despite severe criticism, there are no plans to relocate the remaining matches of the World Cup to other stadiums, according to the ICC.
One of the most anticipated matches of the World Cup, between India and Pakistan, will take place at this stadium in New York on Sunday. There were questions about whether such an important match could be moved to another venue in the United States, like Florida or Texas, but as of now, there are no such plans from the ICC. Hence, the India-Pakistan match will be held at Nassau County Stadium.
According to a report published by BBC News, the Indian team has expressed dissatisfaction with the pitch conditions and the risk of injuries to the batters. In their first match at this ground in New York, India faced Ireland, where Rohit Sharma had to leave the field after being hit on the arm by a delivery from Josh Little. In the same match, Rishabh Pant suffered an injury.
So far, only two matches have been played at Nassau County Stadium. The total runs scored in both matches combined is only 350. Sri Lanka got all out for 77 runs. South Africa had to chase a target of 80 runs, losing 4 wickets in 16.2 overs. The scene was similar in the India-Ireland match, where Ireland got all out for just 96 runs.
Despite intense criticism of the pitch at Nassau County Stadium, the ICC seems unmoved. The remaining matches, including the India-Pakistan match, will be held at this ground.
