Beau Webster, who has been playing for Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield, has been added to the Australian squad as a cover for Mitchell Marsh ahead of the second pink ball Test against India. This marks Webster's first call-up to the international team at the age of 30.
Webster’s recent performances in red-ball cricket, including his contributions in a two-match series against India A, have earned him a spot in the Australian team. In the informal "Test" series, Webster scored 145 runs at an average of 72.50, making him the second-highest run-scorer for Australia.
Mitchell Marsh, who bowled a total of 17 overs in the Perth Test, has bowled the most overs in a Test since the 2019 Oval Test. If Marsh is unavailable for the day-night Test in Adelaide, Webster will have the opportunity to play.
India started the series with a massive 295-run victory, and the second Test will begin on December 6. The second Test in Adelaide will be a day-night fixture.
Australia Squad for the Second Test: Pat Cummins (captain), Scott Boland, Alex Carey (wicketkeeper), Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Nathan McSweeney, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Beau Webster.
