Western Australia's Collapse: From 52-2 to 53 All Out
The match between Western Australia and Tasmania in Australia’s One-Day Cup witnessed a shocking collapse as six Western Australian batters were dismissed for ducks. Despite a decent start, Ashton Turner’s side crumbled in an unforgettable manner against Tasmania.
Batting first after losing the toss at the Western Australia Cricket Association (WACA) Ground in Perth, Western Australia began reasonably well. Opener Aaron Hardie scored 7 runs, while his partner D'Arcy Short contributed 22 runs. Coming in at number three, Cameron Bancroft added 14 runs to the total.
Things were going smoothly for Western Australia, as they reached 52-2 in 15.3 overs. However, the downfall began when Bancroft got out on the fourth ball of the 16th over, followed by captain Ashton Turner on the last ball of the same over.
From there, the collapse was swift. In the 17th over, both Josh Inglis and Hilton Cartwright were dismissed. Cooper Connolly fell in the 18th over, and in the 20th over, on consecutive deliveries, Jhye Richardson and Joel Paris were sent back to the pavilion. Ashton Agar, the last batter, was dismissed on the first ball of the 21st over.
Although the top four batters managed to score, the next six—Ashton Turner, Cooper Connolly, Hilton Cartwright, Ashton Agar, Jhye Richardson, and Joel Paris—were all dismissed for ducks. Lance Morris remained not out, also on 0.
Western Australia went from 52-3 in 15.3 overs to 53 all out in 20.1 overs. Beau Webster took 6 wickets for 17 runs in his 6 overs for Tasmania. Billy Stanlake claimed 3 wickets, while Tom Rogers took 1.
In reply, Tasmania comfortably chased down the target in 8.3 overs, losing only 3 wickets.
