Australia wants to host India-Pakistan matches
Australia Cricket (CA) has expressed its desire to host a bilateral series between India and Pakistan. They are eager to organize the series if the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) can reach an agreement, without any objection from the Australia board. Australia has recently announced a major cricket schedule for this year in November, which includes series against both India and Pakistan.
Pakistan will play three ODIs and three T20 matches against Australia. Just four days later, India will face Australia in a five-match Test series. Each match of this schedule will be held in Australia. The proximity of the India-Pakistan series to Australia has once again sparked discussions about hosting a bilateral series between the two teams.
India and Pakistan haven't organized a bilateral series since the 2012-13 season. They have only faced each other in ICC events recently. Political reasons between the two countries have been responsible for this.
Before the 2022 T20 World Cup, matches between India and Pakistan were held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), where more than 90,000 spectators enjoyed the game. This event has inspired the Australia board to desire hosting bilateral series between India and Pakistan at the MCG.
CA's CEO Nick Hockley said, "Those who were present at the India-Pakistan match at the MCG know it was a memorable event, not just from a cricketing perspective, but for me personally."
"People want to see this contest. If we can host it, we would be delighted to do so if the opportunity arises. If there's a responsibility to fulfill, we'll be happy to do that."
Australia not only aims for bilateral series but also desires to host trilateral series involving India and Pakistan. Earlier, in the 1999-2000 season, a series was organized between India, Pakistan, and Australia.
