Kanpur Outfield Rated ‘Unsatisfactory’ by ICC
The ICC has rated the outfield of the Kanpur stadium as "unsatisfactory" following the India-Bangladesh Test series, resulting in a demerit point for the ground. However, the pitch used in Chennai for the first Test was rated as "very good."
Bangladesh’s tour of India concluded with the Kanpur Test on October 1. After losing the first Test in Chennai by 280 runs, Bangladesh was defeated by seven wickets in the second Test at Kanpur. While the pitch in Kanpur was deemed acceptable, the outfield fell short, according to the ICC.
Heavy rain and a damp outfield limited the match to just two and a half days of play, in which Nazmul Hossain Shanto’s team ultimately suffered a loss. The poor outfield conditions have led to ICC sanctions for Green Park Stadium, resulting in one demerit point.
The stadium has faced significant criticism for its inadequate drainage system, raising doubts about hosting further international matches. Only 173.2 overs were played across all four innings of the Test, whereas a typical five-day Test match involves 450 overs, with 90 overs scheduled per day. Consequently, the Test concluded within the equivalent of two days' worth of overs.
