Virender Sehwag Criticizes Shakib Al Hasan Again
Virender Sehwag, former Indian opener, has once again criticized Shakib Al Hasan following Bangladesh’s loss to India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Sehwag had previously faced backlash for his comments on Shakib after the match against South Africa but chose to reiterate his criticism after the latest defeat.
Shakib was dismissed in a manner that drew criticism in the first two matches of the group stage, and he didn't complete his bowling quota. On the Cricbuzz show, Sehwag remarked that Shakib should have been ashamed and retired earlier. After Bangladesh's 50-run loss to India in the Super Eight, Sehwag suggested that Shakib should make way for new talent.
During the Cricbuzz show, Sehwag questioned Shakib's commitment, saying, "I have doubts about whether Shakib cares about anything. With a batsman at the other end, he should have stayed on the wicket and tried to advance the game. Instead, he got out after scoring 11 runs off 7 balls."
Against India, Shakib scored 11 runs off 7 balls and got out attempting a six. Criticizing this, Sehwag added, "I don't understand if he is so experienced, why he doesn’t use that experience or if he doesn’t care. Did he think it was a big target, he hit a six, and he can hit a six every ball? That’s not possible. He didn’t use his experience. That’s why I previously said Shakib should make way for a new cricketer."
Previously, after Sehwag’s criticism following the South Africa match, Shakib responded with a match-winning performance against the Netherlands. Bangladesh will face Afghanistan in their final Super Eight match on the 25th. Will Shakib be able to answer Sehwag's criticism once again with his performance on the field?
