Bangladesh suffered a significant defeat in Chennai, managing only 234 runs while chasing a massive target of 515. This resulted in a comprehensive victory for India by 280 runs, with Ravichandran Ashwin playing a pivotal role by taking five wickets and scoring a century in the same match.
Starting the fourth day with 158 runs on the board and six wickets in hand, Bangladesh hoped to mount a challenge. However, the innings fell apart quickly as they were all out for 234, handing India a comfortable win.
The day began with Bangladesh’s overnight batsmen, Shakib Al Hasan and Nazmul Hossain Shanto, cautiously navigating the first hour. However, Ashwin struck early, dismissing Shakib for 25 runs off 56 balls. Following his wicket, Liton Das failed to make an impact, falling to Ravindra Jadeja for just 1 run.
The Bangladesh batting lineup collapsed under pressure, losing three wickets in quick succession. Mehidy Hasan Miraz attempted an ambitious lofted shot but ended up getting caught at long-on. Nazmul Hossain Shanto, who was the highest scorer for Bangladesh with 82 runs, also fell soon after, leaving the team in dire straits at 228 runs.
Ultimately, Bangladesh was bowled out for 234 runs, leading to India’s convincing 280-run victory. This win puts Rohit Sharma’s team ahead in the series, marking a strong start for the Indian side.
