On Day 3 of the Melbourne Test, India made a strong comeback with their batsmen dominating the entire day's play. Recovering from the previous day's setbacks, India ended the day with 358 runs, losing 9 wickets. They still trail Australia by 116 runs in their first innings, with just 1 wicket remaining.

India started Day 3 with 164 runs on the board for 5 wickets. Rishabh Pant, who was unbeaten on 6 runs at the end of Day 2, was dismissed early on Day 3 for 28 runs. Shortly after, Ravindra Jadeja was trapped LBW for 17 runs, leaving India in a precarious position at 221 for 7.

However, Nitish Kumar Reddy showed resilience, putting up a solid 127-run partnership for the 8th wicket with Washington Sundar. Sundar, who contributed 50 runs, was dismissed by Nathan Lyon, caught by Steve Smith. After this, Jasprit Bumrah, who was on zero, was dismissed by Pat Cummins.

By the end of the day, Nitish Reddy had completed his century, remaining unbeaten on 105 runs, with 10 fours and 1 six in his innings. On the other end, Mohammad Siraj was unbeaten on 2 runs.
