Dinesh Karthik Calls Rishabh Pant Vs MS Dhoni ‘Greatest in Test’ Debate ‘Unacceptable’
Rishabh Pant made a memorable comeback to Test cricket after 632 days, scoring a century that marked his sixth in the format. As a wicketkeeper-batter, Pant's six centuries have now matched the record set by legendary cricketer MS Dhoni. While Dhoni scored six centuries in 144 innings across 90 Tests, Pant has achieved the same feat in just 58 innings from 34 Tests.
Following his impressive innings of 109 against Bangladesh, comparisons between Pant and Dhoni emerged on social media, with some declaring Pant as the best Test cricketer, surpassing Dhoni. However, former Indian cricketer and commentator Dinesh Karthik disagrees with these comparisons, deeming them "unacceptable."
In an interview with Cricbuzz, Karthik stated, "It's very unacceptable to say that Pant, having played only 34 Tests, is already India's best wicketkeeper-batter. We should take our time before making such judgments. If he continues this performance, he could end his career as India's greatest wicketkeeper."
Karthik also emphasized Dhoni's contributions as a wicketkeeper, highlighting his crucial batting performances that were vital for India. "Don’t forget Dhoni’s contributions as a wicketkeeper. He batted superbly, which was very important for India. He led India to the number one ranking in the World Test Championship."
It’s noteworthy that Rishabh Pant’s sixth Test century came in his 58th innings, while Dhoni achieved six centuries in 144 innings.
