Joe Root has become the seventh batters in Test cricket history to score 12,000 or more runs. He is the second English batter to reach this milestone, following Alastair Cook.

Root reached the 12,000-run mark during the ongoing third Test against the West Indies. He began the match with 11,940 runs at the age of 33.

After scoring 14 runs in this innings, Root surpassed West Indian legend Brian Lara, who had 11,953 runs. He completed his 12,000 runs milestone when he reached 60 runs in this innings.

Before Root, the other players who have crossed the 12,000-run mark in Test cricket include two Indian batsmen (Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid), one English batsman (Alastair Cook), South Africa's Jacques Kallis, Australia's Ricky Ponting, and Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara.
