For now, Afghanistan's leg-spinner Rashid Khan will not be returning to Test cricket. Due to a long-standing injury, doctors have advised Rashid not to return to Test cricket until November this year. However, there are no restrictions on him playing ODIs and T20s.
On September 9, Afghanistan and New Zealand will play a one-off Test in Greater Noida, India. Rashid is certain to miss this Test. There's also uncertainty about whether he will be available for the two-match Test series against Zimbabwe in December, along with three ODIs and several T20 series afterward.
Afghanistan Cricket Board's Chief Executive, Naseeb Khan, told Cricbuzz on Friday, "After Rashid Khan's back surgery last year, his doctors advised him to refrain from participating in Test cricket for a year."
He added, "We are hopeful that he will be available for the two Tests against Zimbabwe in December."
Rashid Khan last played a Test in March 2021. In 5 Test matches, he has taken 34 wickets. After undergoing back surgery last year following the ODI World Cup, Rashid was out of action for nearly four months. Since recovering, he has only played T20 matches.
