The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has confirmed the appointment of Stuart Law as the new head coach of the Nepal national cricket team. The announcement was made on social media on Friday. The former Australian batter will serve as the coach of Nepal's cricket team for the next two years.
Stuart Law's coaching career reached a remarkable milestone at the end of last year. He achieved significant success as the head coach of the United States national cricket team. Under his guidance, the United States reached the Super 8 stage of the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, securing a historic win against Pakistan on home soil.
The 56-year-old Law played 55 matches for the Australian cricket team between 1994 and 1999. Additionally, he has worked as the coach of the national teams of the USA, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, West Indies, and Afghanistan.
As Nepal's coach, his first major challenge will be the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 series in June 2024. In this series, Nepal will face Scotland and the Netherlands. Currently, Nepal is in 7th place in the league, with just 2 wins from 12 matches. After the league concludes in December 2026, the top 4 teams will qualify for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers, while the bottom 4 teams will participate in the Qualifier Play-Offs.
