Unpicked Stars at the BPL 2025 Players' Draft
The player draft for the upcoming BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) has concluded, with seven teams completing their selections. While nearly all national team players have found new teams in this edition of the BPL, several prominent Test players, including Muminul Haque and Saadman Islam, remain unsold. Additionally, no franchise showed interest in players like Rubel Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, and Shubagato Hom.
The players draft took place at a five-star hotel in the capital, with seven teams (three new and four old) having organized their squads through retention and direct signings before the draft. Each franchise has finalized a squad of at least 14 members through the combination of the draft and direct contracts.
Overall, the seven teams have mostly solidified their squads. However, neither of the captains from the previous season—Mosaddek Hossain Saikat of Dhaka Dominators and Shubagato Hom of Chittagong Challengers—garnered any interest from franchises this time.
Also notably overlooked in the draft was Muminul Haque, who scored a century in the recent Test series against India. The list of players without teams includes Saikat Ali, spinner Nazmul Islam Appu, left-handed batter Fazle Mahmud Rabbi, pace bowler Dritunjay Chowdhury, and experienced pacer Rubel Hossain, all of whom did not secure a spot in the BPL draft.
Despite this setback, these players still have an opportunity to shine in the BPL if any team opts to sign them through direct contracts.
