Uganda Crumbles Under Fazalhaq Farooqi's Bowling Onslaught
For the first time in the T20 World Cup, Uganda played & was bowled out for just 58 runs. As a result, Rashid Khan's team, Afghanistan, won the match by a huge margin of 125 runs.
This is the fourth lowest score in T20 World Cup history. One of the key players in dismissing Uganda for such a low score was Afghan pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi. He took 5 wickets for 9 runs in 4 overs, marking his best career bowling figures and the first five-wicket haul of this World Cup.
Chasing a massive target of 184 runs, Uganda lost two wickets in the very first over bowled by Fazalhaq Farooqi. After that, their collapse continued. By the time they reached 18 runs, they had lost 5 wickets. The African team could not recover from this setback and set an embarrassing record for the fourth lowest total in T20 World Cup history.
Uganda was bowled out for 58 runs in 16 overs at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Their innings crumbled like a house of cards, leading to a 125-run victory for Rashid Khan's team. This is the fourth-largest win by runs in T20 World Cup history.
Only two Ugandan batsmen managed to reach double figures. The highest score was 14 runs by Robinson Obuya, who hit a six in his 25-ball innings, making him the first player to hit a six for Uganda in the World Cup. Riazat Ali Shah scored 11 runs off 34 balls.
Nine other batsmen were dismissed for single-digit scores. Besides Farooqi’s five-wicket haul, Naveen-ul-Haq and captain Rashid Khan took 2 wickets each for Afghanistan.
Earlier, Afghanistan, batting first after losing the toss, posted a big total thanks to their opening partnership. Openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran put up 154 runs together. This 154-run opening stand is the second-highest partnership in World Cup history.
The partnership was broken in the 15th over when Zadran was dismissed for 70 runs off 46 balls. Three balls later, fellow opener Gurbaz was also dismissed. Gurbaz scored 76 runs off 45 balls, hitting four fours and four sixes.
