Towhid Hridoy's Dream: Aiming for the Finals Despite a Close Loss to South Africa
While many team members are eyeing the Super Eights or the semifinals, Towhid Hridoy dreams of playing in the final. Following the close match against South Africa, Hridoy shared his grand vision. He believes, "Not just the semifinals, Bangladesh will also play in the final."
Despite a 4-run loss to South Africa, Bangladesh's fighting performance throughout the match has earned them praise. The hopes of victory ended when Mahmudullah Riyad was caught out attempting a six on the second last ball of the 19th over. With 6 runs needed off the final ball, Taskin could only manage a single off Keshav Maharaj’s full toss. The Bangladesh dressing room was left in despair.
At the post-match press conference, Towhid Hridoy articulated the team's goals, saying, "I believe that we are not just a Super Eight team; we are capable of playing in the semifinals and the final. This is my belief."
Bangladesh's batters have been struggling for form in recent series, and this has been particularly noticeable in the World Cup. Fans and supporters are unhappy with the batting collapse of the Tigers. The players are aware of their shortcomings, but Hridoy remains optimistic about a swift comeback,
"Our batters are not scoring runs. In every match, not everyone scores; it’s usually 1-2 players. In the shorter format, not all 11 players contribute. The 2-3 players who do well need to finish the game. This is my personal opinion. The batters aren’t scoring, but Insha’Allah, they will in the upcoming matches. I hope we bounce back soon."
Explaining his remarkable batting in the last two matches, Hridoy said, "When I batted, my aim was to play with intent. This is a game of runs. My plan was to score in any situation. Yes, I may face tough situations, but I executed according to the match's demands."
Hridoy’s confidence and vision reflect his belief in the team's potential to achieve great success in the tournament, despite the current setbacks.
