Tom Curran Refutes “Tears at the Airport” Claim as PSL Resumes After Indo-Pak Tensions
English pace-bowling all-rounder Tom Curran has denied social-media chatter that he “cried like a child” when flights were suspended in the wake of the recent India-Pakistan flare-up—a rumour sparked by Bangladesh’s young leg-spinning all-rounder Rishad Hossain during an airport lay-over.
How the story began
When the Pakistan Super League was paused last month amid air-space closures, Lahore Qalandars’ overseas contingent—including Curran and Rishad—flew home via Dubai. Speaking to Bangladeshi reporters in transit, 22-year-old Rishad quipped:
“When Tom heard flights were grounded he started crying like a kid; it took three of us to calm him down.”
The light-hearted remark went viral, prompting memes but no immediate response from Curran.
Curran sets the record straight
With a cease-fire announced and the PSL now back on, Curran has re-joined the Qalandars. Posting a photo with Pakistan Rangers at Lahore airport, he wrote:
“Delighted the PSL is back and praying for lasting peace between the two nations. Swear on my life—I did not cry. I was ready to play.”
Rishad issues apology
Rishad, currently on Bangladesh’s tour of the UAE and therefore unavailable to return to the PSL, had already walked back the comment:
“My off-the-cuff line lacked full context and unintentionally exaggerated emotions. I sincerely apologise to Tom and anyone misled.”
Squad shuffle for Lahore
Out: Rishad Hossain (national duty, UAE tour)
In: Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh’s premier all-rounder, has filled the overseas slot alongside Curran as Lahore push toward the playoffs.
The Qalandars restart their campaign later this week, with Curran expected to lead the death-bowling unit while Shakib reinforces the middle order and spin attack.
