Tilak Varma Sets World Record with Hat-trick of Centuries in T20 Cricket

Tilak Varma has set a world record by scoring a hat-trick of centuries in T20 cricket, a feat no player has achieved before him. Today, during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Varma played an exceptional inning of 151 runs off 66 balls, becoming the first player to score three consecutive centuries in T20 cricket.

In the recent series against South Africa, Varma scored back-to-back centuries in the first two matches. His first century came in just 51 balls, while the second came even quicker, off only 41 balls. Today, he reached his third century again in 51 balls.

In today's match, Varma's 151-run inning included 10 sixes and 14 fours, with a strike rate of 225.37 while batting at number 3. In the national team, Rishabh Pant usually bats at number 3. While Varma's hat-trick of centuries is impressive, it might be challenging for him to displace Pant, as the BCCI has always shown confidence in experienced players.

Tilak Varma made his international debut in August 2023. However, he has not yet secured a permanent spot in the Indian team. In the October series against Bangladesh, although he was included as a replacement for Shivam Dube, he was not named in the playing XI.

Before the 2025 IPL auction, Mumbai Indians retained Varma as one of the five players. Over the past three seasons, the franchise has placed its faith in him, re-signing him for 8 crore rupees
