Taskin Ahmed's Record-Breaking 7 Wickets Lead Durbar Rajshahi to Easy Victory

Taskin Ahmed has set a new record by taking 7 wickets in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), as his team Durbar Rajshahi won their match against Dhaka Capitals by 7 wickets. Despite Taskin's extraordinary bowling performance, Dhaka Capitals posted a respectable total of 174 runs for 9 wickets. However, Rajshahi successfully chased down the target thanks to the brilliant batting efforts of captain Anamul Haque Bijoy and Ryan Burl, both of whom scored half-centuries to seal a comfortable victory.

This win marked Durbar Rajshahi’s first victory of the tournament after two consecutive losses, and it also handed Dhaka Capitals their second defeat in a row. Taskin was the standout performer, single-handedly claiming 7 wickets in his 4-over spell while conceding just 19 runs. His remarkable bowling earned him the Player of the Match award.

Chasing a target of 175 runs, Rajshahi reached the target in just 18.1 overs. Captain Bijoy led from the front with an aggressive knock, hitting boundaries to bring the match home with 11 balls to spare. However, Rajshahi's top-order did not have the best of starts, losing both openers early. Mohammad Haris made 12 runs, while Zishan Alam was dismissed for a duck. Following a shaky 73 for 3, Rajshahi's middle order steadied the ship, with Captain Bijoy playing a key role.

Bijoy completed his half-century off just 35 balls, scoring a match-winning 73 runs off 46 balls, including 9 fours and 3 sixes. He was well-supported by Ryan Burl, who also played an excellent knock, scoring an unbeaten 55 off 31 balls, which included 5 fours.

Together, Bijoy and Burl formed a vital 106-run partnership in just 58 balls, securing the win for Rajshahi. After a loss to Fortune Barishal in the opening match of the tournament, Durbar Rajshahi bounced back strongly with this impressive victory.

Taskin Ahmed’s Historical Achievement: Taskin’s 7-wicket performance not only helped Rajshahi win but also broke Mohammad Amir’s record for the best bowling figures in BPL history. Amir had previously set the record in 2020 with 6 wickets for 17 runs in 4 overs against Rajshahi while playing for Khulna. Taskin’s outstanding performance has now set a new benchmark in BPL.

Additionally, Taskin became only the third bowler in recognized T20 cricket to take 7 wickets in an innings, joining the elite group of bowlers who have achieved this feat before him: Colin Ackermann from the Netherlands and Syazrul Idrus from Malaysia.
