Tanzid Tamim Breaks Bangladesh’s Sixes Record in BPL

Tanzid Tamim, the opening batter for Dhaka Capitals, has been in exceptional form in the ongoing BPL, with both the most runs and the most sixes in the tournament so far. On Wednesday, Tamim played a match-winning knock of 90 runs off 54 balls against Chittagong Kings, guiding his team to victory.

After the match, Tamim attended the press conference representing Dhaka Capitals. Despite being unbeaten on 90 runs, Tamim showed no regret for missing out on a century. "What happened, happened, Alhamdulillah. It could have been a century, but it wasn’t in my hands. I’m happy to have finished the innings well," he said.

Tamim has now set the record for hitting the most sixes by a Bangladeshi batter in a single BPL season. Among both local and foreign players, only one batter has hit more sixes in a season—Chris Gayle. Gayle hit 47 sixes in the 2017 season across 11 matches, while Tamim has managed 29 sixes in 10 matches. With two more matches to go, the question arises: Can Tamim break Gayle’s record?

When asked about it, Tamim replied, "I don’t think about things like that. There are two more matches left, and right now I’m just focusing on how I can finish them well. It’s possible, but I will try to stick to my normal playing style."

Talking about his preparation before the match, Tamim shared, "There’s no secret to it. I play this way naturally, and I focus on working with my strengths. If I make mistakes during a match, I work on those."

Looking ahead, Tamim is hopeful for a strong finish in the remaining two matches. "Honestly, I’m thinking about these things as the tournament nears its end. If I can finish the last two matches well, something good may come of it. I will try my best to finish these last two matches on a high."
